"What the hell just happened?" Beau growled, running his hands through his hair. "Everything was going great."

"I know, Beau," Brandon replied, mimicking his brother's frustrated gesture as he watched the door slam behind Emma's departure. "We'll talk to her again later, at the rodeo. Maybe she'll be ready to listen there."

"Yeah—with a thousand people around, including her family? Are you nuts?"

"Maybe, but I know one thing. I'm not done with little Miss Emma Weston. Not by a long shot." He got to his feet and headed for the bathroom. "I'm taking a shower, and then you can have the bathroom if you want. We need to make sure everything is set for the show this evening anyway. We've got some work to do. I want to be out there around the people today. The more I can interact with them, the more we'll have at the show, and the more money we'll make for Charlene."

"All right. I'll make some phone calls while you're in the shower. We'll need to stop at the garage so we can get your amps off the bus and some of the light setups out of the trailer."

After a quick shower, Brandon picked out the standard cowboy attire. Damn, I haven't worn the whole outfit in a while. Fastening each snap on the front and at his wrists, he thought of Emma. "It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a couple of cops on standby in case. I don't think it'll be a big deal once the announcement is made why we're doing this." He glanced at his brother and cocked his head to the side. "Are you gonna ride?"
